- ENDMESSAGE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENPROBLEM A problem?
-
- NODE DRYDENPROBLEM
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- I'm sorry. Please, let me explain. You see, I was a captive of those
- mockeries of life which you just destroyed.
- ENDMESSAGE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENPROBLEM2 You, a captive?
-
- NODE DRYDENPROBLEM2
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- Yes. You see, they're taken my children hostage, and hence, I am
- their slave. To harm them was to harm my children. Now that you have
- destroyed them, I am afraid that all is lost. But I could hardly
- have lived with myself had I killed you to save those vile monsters.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 2
- DRYDENHELP Umm... thanks. Is there anything I can do to help?
- DRYDENNOHELP Uh, yeah. Tough break. Later.
-
- NODE DRYDENHELP
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- Perhaps, perhaps. It is not only my children which are captive, but
- the children of all the giants. I find myself temporarily free, but
- I am very conspicuous. If you could get to my king, and ask him what
- I should do, then maybe HE will have some answer. And in return...
- let's see... In return, I can help you with the Earth.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 2
- DRYDENHELP1.5 OK. The earth?
- DRYDENNOHELP No thanks. Sounds too dangerous.
-
- NODE DRYDENHELP1.5
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- Yes, the earth. You do realize that you can flow the earth, don't you?
- You are a mage, and it feels to me like you are fairly strong in earth.
- I will help you to use that if you will help us.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 2
- DRYDENHELP2 Where do I go?
- DRYDENNOHELP No thanks. Sound too dangerous.
-
- NODE DRYDENHELP2
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- Go west, but don't follow the road north. If you are seen by the
- guards at the quarry, then you are dead. Keep going west until just
- before the mountains. There, you will find a path across the river.
- Once across, sneak around to the back of the quarry, and you will find
- a secret door into where they hold us prisoner at night. Once inside,
- find my king, Conlan, and tell him Dryden said the 'Prophesy of the
- Smallest Giant.' Let him know the situation and see if he has any ideas.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENHELP3 I'm on my way.

- NODE DRYDENHELP3
- NEWNODE DRYDENHELLO3
- FLAG 2
- Oh, make sure you don't go too far south of the river. There are
- creatures that make the NightRunners blanch living in there. And
- be careful of the scorpions once you cross, they grow kinda big
- there. Good Luck!

- What's this? Has one of our children sneaked back to us? They must be
- starving you! [He pauses, bending down for a closer examination.]
- A HUMAN?!? Why, you're almost as bad as the scourge who have our children

- NODE CONLANMESSAGE
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- 'Prophesy of the Smallest Giant'? You've seen Dryden? Yes, I've been
- thinking about that prophesy often of late. "When the children are afraid
- of the Dark and parents afraid for the children, the smallest StoneWorker
- shall bring them Light." But he knows this has been on my mind, why send
- this message with you. He must be free, outside.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- CONLANME Yes, he is. He thought you might know something that would help.
-
- NODE CONLANME
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- Yes, perhaps I do. I must suppose Dryden has figured something out that
- I cannot. I will give you this information. But understand, if you
- betray us, NOTHING will stop me from hunting you down.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- CONLANME2 [Gulp.] I understand.
-
- NODE CONLANME2
- NEWNODE CONLANHELLO2
- FLAG 4
- OK then. Tell Dryden that there is a passage at the outer, north-west wall
- of the Stronghold. The passage is small... if he has truly found the
- smallest StoneWorker, he might get through. The passage will get him inside
- the stronghold. The NightRunner keeps the children locked up behind his rooms.
- The only chance for our children is for the 'smallest StoneWorker' to sneak
- into the NightRunner's chambers, kill the NightRunner, then free the children.

- DRYDENMESSAGE Yes. [You describe the north-west passage.]
-
- NODE DRYDENMESSAGE
- NEWNODE

- A secret passage, hmmm? Did he say anything about the 'Prophesy of
- the Smallest Giant'?
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE

- DRYDENMESSAGE2 He didn't understand.
-
- NODE DRYDENMESSAGE2
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- "When the children are afraid of the Dark and parents afraid for the
- children, the smallest StoneWorker shall bring them Light."
- StoneWorker is an old name for the Giants, for we are strong in
- the magic of Earth.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENMESSAGE3 So who is this small Giant?
-
- NODE DRYDENMESSAGE3
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- In the days before the Cataclysm, StoneWorker was also a slang term
- used to describe a human strong in Earth Magic. Come, let me show
- you something. [Dryden sits down, inviting you to join him. When
- you do, he speaks, slowly, in a humming, musical rumble.] Now,
- concentrate. Feel the earth below you. [He pauses. You do as he
- asks, wondering what he expects to happen. You find yourself
- strangely soothed.] Listen to the earth. Feel its strength, its
- warmth. Let your roots reach down, down... deep into the earth.
- [You feel yourself taking hold of the earth. There is no fear,
- no claustrafobia. There is only the healing power of the earth.
- You feel yourself recuperating from the day's adventures. You
- feel revived.]
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE

- FLAG
- There! I've just guided you through your first heal spell.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENMESSAGE5 What???
-
- NODE DRYDENMESSAGE5
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- I told you you were strong in the earth. From now on, you'll be
- able to cast the heal spell on your own. You see, YOU are the
- smallest StoneWorker... the smallest Giant.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENMESSAGE6 [You sit in stunned apoplexy.]
-
- NODE DRYDENMESSAGE6
- NEWNODE
- FLAG
- So. Here's the plan. You sneak in the secret passage. I'm fairly
- sure the children are being held in the middle of the east side
- of the stronghold. If you get wounded, use the heal spell. When
- the commotion begins, I'll break through the front. By then, you
- should have the children safely under your guard. While you keep
- them safe, I'll clear out the castle.
- ENDMESSAGE NOBYE
- OPTIONS 1
- DRYDENMESSAGE7 You must be kidding.
-
- NODE DRYDENMESSAGE7
- NEWNODE

- [As he begins preparing himself.] Do you have a better idea?
